7th Sumi Chess C’ship conclude

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 10 (MExN): The 7th Sumi Chess Championship concluded on Saturday, September 10. The championship was organized by the Sumi Chess Association Nagaland at Circuit House, Dimapur and had begun on September 7.
Held according to FIDE (World Chess Federation) norms, participants were grouped into two categories – general and junior (under-16). In the general category, Kahoshe Awomi topped the rankings with 8 points, followed by Tokuho Awomi (7 ½ points), Mughaho Awomi (6 ½.51 points), Sukhavi Achumi (6 ½ .42 points) and Toikhu Sumi (6 points).
Pivito Assumi of holy Cross Higher Secondary School topped the juniors’ category with 5.43 points. Joash Swu of Living Stone Foundation Higher Secondary School was ranked second with 5.36 points followed by Nitoka Shohe, also of Living Stone Foundation Higher Secondary School, in third place with 4 ½ points.
Special category prizes were also awarded to newcomers. Kiheto V Sumi (6 points) was adjudged best senior newcomer while Vezheto Shohe (6 points) was adjudged the best competitor among 50 years & above players. Mughapu M Swu of Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School was the best junior newcomer with 4 points. Lhokiye Yeptho of NCA was the chief arbiter of the tournament. The valedictory function was graced Dr. Khekugha Muru as the chief guest.
