86 new COVID cases in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 13 (MExN): The surge in COVID-19 cases continued in Nagaland with 86 new cases detected in the State on January 13. This was out of 1,052 test results. Meanwhile 17 new recoveries were also reported on the day, all from Dimapur. 

The new cases include 77 from Dimapur, 6 from Kohima and 3 from Peren. They comprise of 41 travelers/returnees, 42 detected through self testing and random sampling, 1 from the armed forces/security personnel, 1 traced contact, and 1 frontline worker.  

The total caseload of the State is now 32,616. Of this, 30,456 people have recovered from the infection in Nagaland so far, and the number of the active COVID-19 cases in the State now stands at 287. With no new fatalities reported, the death toll due to the virus remains at 687. 

Of the active cases in the State, 265 are asymptomatic, 20 have mild symptoms, 1 has moderate symptoms and 1 has severe symptoms requiring oxygen. There are no COVID-19 patients in the ICU as of now, according to the State Health Department’s daily bulletin. 

Meanwhile, on the national scale data uploaded by the Health Ministry informed that India logged 2,47,417 new coronavirus infections, the highest in 236 days, taking the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 3,63,17,927. This included 5,488 cases of the Omicron variant.

The country saw a single day jump of 620 cases of the Omicron variant, the highest so far, taking the total tally of such cases to 5,488, out of which 2,162 people have recovered or migrated so far.

The active cases have increased to 11,17,531, the highest in 216  days, while the death toll has climbed to 4,85,035 with 380 fresh fatalities, the data updated at 8 am stated.

Maharashtra recorded the maximum number of 1,367 cases of Omicron variant followed by Rajasthan at 792, Delhi 549, Kerala 486 and Karnataka 479.
 

Governor tests COVID positive

Guwahati, January 13 (MExN): Assam and Nagaland Governor Jagdish Mukhi has tested positive for COVID-19. 

A PTI report, citing an official, informed that the Governor has been hospitalised after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Mukhi reportedly tested positive for the infection on Wednesday. "The Governor was admitted at the Apollo Hospital in the city last evening. He is in a stable condition," the official was quoted as stating. His wife has tested negative for the infection and is staying at Raj Bhawan. 

Meanwhile Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio prayed for the Governor’s good health. “My wishes for a speedy recovery of the Honourable Governor of Nagaland and Assam Prof @jagdishmukhi  who tested positive for COVID-19. Prayers for your good health,” the Chief Minister tweeted on Thursday evening.
