A NOBLE INITIATIVE: Community funded school building inaugurated in Yaongyimchen

LONGLENG, OCTOBER 28 (MExN): A community funded school building constructed under the initiative of Lemschenlok Society and communities of Yaongyimchen, Alayong and Sanglu villages was inaugurated on October 27 at Yaongyimchen, Longleng district. 

Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Kekhrielhoulie Yhome was the special guest for the occasion.

Exhorting the gathering “to love our own people” to look after oneself as much as possible without depending on others, Yhome appreciated the initiative of the Lemsachenlok and communities of Yaongyimchen, Alayong and Sanglu for being able to build a school without the help from the government.

He challenged the different community leaders of Longleng district to focus on the development of their own community and be generous to provide appropriate location for building educational institutions for their children. 

He also expressed the challenges faced by teachers coming from different district to work for their community and urged the public to think about their welfare by supporting them. He further challenged the community of Yaongyimchen, Alayung and Sanglu to find more students to fill in the newly constructed building and shared some future plans of the education department. 

MLA Bangtick Phom, in his address, applauded the community for bringing up such innovative activities as well as the staff of GHS Yaongyimchen for crossing all barriers in achieving excellent academic performance.

Joint Secretary School Education, Avelu Ruho urged the communities to come forward and share new ideas and at the same time accept changes so it would be beneficial for both the Education department and also the communities at large.

AlijoCademia: Morung concept of education
Conservationist and founder of Lemchasenlok Society, Nuklu Phom dwelt his address on the AlijoCademia (Morung) concept of education in the village from the year 2010 which later merged with Samagra as “Laaipang.” He explained about the inculcation of formal education in the form of tuition in the evening and also skill training programme, moral education, folklores and folktales from the elders of the village and life values in the AlijoCademia. 

Despite the initial challenges faced due to financial constraints in expanding the Morung concept of education, Phom said there are around 18 Laaipang centres at present. 

He also mentioned about the success story of how students of class 10 could perform well for 4 consecutive years in the history of GHS Yaongyimchen by giving a cent percent result with the initiative of Laaipang tuition. On the occasion, Phom also conferred the key of the newly constructed building sponsored by the community to the concerned department.

Bhumnyu village council chairman, shared his testimony on the impact made by the Lemsachenlok with the neighboring villages of Phom area, under the leadership of Nuklu Phom. 

Most encouraging experience was during the Covid19 era, where Lemsachenlok came forward to encourage the communities to continue learning and imparting knowledge to the children in the AlijoCademia platform since it was uncertain when the pandemic would end.

He further mentioned how Phom, a conservationist, had also been encouraging the community to work towards biodiversity conservation.    

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Yaongyimchen village council chairman. He requested the Advisor to provide electricity connection to the school which is of utmost importance for the functioning of the school.
