Besides celebrating 75 years of Christianity, Pfuchama village has been a shining example of taking the process of reconciliation up front with her neighbors.
Pfuchama Village is celebrating 75 years of Christianity (Platinum Jubilee) this year. The year long celebration will end with two days of festivity and special celebration and worship on 10th and 11th December, 2005. A host of guests from around the neighboring villages with their choirs and all Angami churches are expected to join us during this great jubilation. The Platinum Jubilee commemoration began at the beginning of this year with a process of Reconciliation.
Among those with whom our village reconciled, is a neighboring Village called “KHULAZOU” which falls under Chakhesang Community with whom we have had a difficult history of bitter killings and bloodshed. This year the two villages have had a great moment of Reconciliation and Peace-making and both the villages have since then, experienced amazing blessings in various ways. Pfuchama Village has invited Khulazou Village to be their special guest (SOKHRIE SO) during the Jubilee Celebration in December. Reconciliation is also taking place within the village.
Other highlights of the Jubilee celebration includes collective prayers at every home of the village, ringing of the Joy-Bells one whole month, Jubilee Road Construction, Construction of the Church building and other Village Development activities. The whole village is fully engaged in all the events and everyone is joyfully preparing themselves for the grand celebration.
The December event will include unveiling of the Platinum Jubilee Monolith, inauguration of the new Church building, Cultural Programs and Mass feasts. The main speakers of the Jubilee service are Rev. Zhabu Terhüja, Rev. Ketsozeho Sale and Rev. Zhapovil.
It may be noted that Christianity came to Pfuchama Village through a neighbouring village way back in 1930 and the first convert of the village was Mr. Pfutso who was known as the best hunter of his time and later became the first soul-winner for Christ in the village. Pfuchamas were known for being physically strong and great warriors at war time. The name “Pfuchama” is derived from the name of the founder “Pfuchau”, whose mother carried him in her womb for 11 months before delivery. This is perhaps the reason why ‘Pfuchamas’ are considered physically stronger and fit to be a warrior. Pfuchamas migrated from Kigwema village at around 16th century.
American Missionary George Washington Supplee (G.W. Supplee) came to Pfuchama during 1943 to preach the gospel to the people. The elders of the village clearly remember the sermon delivered by him which was based on the second coming of Christ.
The late pastor of Pfuchama Village Baptist Church, Pastor Mhanicha has a record of serving the church as a pastor for 50 years, from 1944 to 1994. This achievement is unique in the Church history and the village gratefully remembers this great shepherd, who went to be rested in the Lord on 31st December, 2000.
The village of Pfuchama warmly welcomes believers and well wishers to join us for our grand celebration during December 10th to 11th, 2005. We also invite you to please remember us in your prayers.
