Speaking exclusively with The Morung Express, Lemtur revealed that the song was actually recorded in the year 2017 prior its release. A well-loved Naga artist beloved for hits such as, ‘Mintu Loves Pinky,’ ‘Ayo Yo Technology,’ and ‘Antivirus’ his songs have garnered massive attention through his YouTube platform from not just the state but from across the Northeast region as well. Moreover, his ability to write simplistic, memorable sing-along lyrics coupled with humour has won him several praise and awards over the years.
A wakeup call to our people
Lemtur’s ‘Election drama,’ has come out a crucial moment right during the 2023 state assembly elections. Intended as a, “a wakeup call to our people,” the song demonstrates a deep rooted issue of never-ending corruption inherent within its political structure. Through his lyrics, he is unashamed at bashing the voters and the politicians responsible for the corruption permeating in Nagaland.
“This song is dedicated to all the corrupt politicians, bureaucrats and political prostitutes who sell their vote for money,” the intro to the music video reads. The statement refers to those money-mongering voters and corrupted leaders who sell their voting rights for few bucks, he elaborated.
A music video to go fittingly along with the song depicts Lemtur as a mock-up politician addressing his voters during the election. Flanked by his personal bodyguard and secretary in the video he appreciates the voters for electing him to power again through corrupt means, using the pseudonym of Minister Mukh Bahadur.
“In every election, most of the politicians promise progress and development but sadly when we look at the reality, Nagas are lacking behind in all the aspects of development,” he shared. Further commenting that, the people have been living on false promises for several years now.
Using comedy to connect with audiences
As a person fond of comedy shows and movies growing up, Lemtur states that he always had an intention to create comedic content as a way to connect with his audience. “People like me are into show business and we always try to please the viewers through our content,” he noted.
At the same time however, his latest single aims to bring awareness to views and listeners alike about the dangers of indulging in ‘dirty politics,’ which have gone unchecked over the years. “As we all know truth hurts,” he said.
Keeping this in mind, people were considerably well receptive to the song with several individuals commenting on the video that it had been released at the right time. “This song carries the best message for our people,” one user commented.
For Lemtur, “Music is one of the powerful tools to penetrate the human soul and mind, so I believe songs can easily bring social transformation as well as political change.”
