Abducted workers rescued after heavy exchange of fire: Peren SP

PEREN, JULY 23 (MExN): Peren Police on Tuesday provided details on the abduction of two employees of a road construction firm from Peren district and the subseqnent operation carried out to rescue them. 

In a press release, SP Peren informed that on June 29, a written complaint was received from one construction company stating that unknown persons numbering 5/6 people broke into their labour camp on June 28 and forcefully abducted 2 of their employees. 

Following the abduction, a ransom of Rs 3 crore was demanded for their release. On receipt of this information, Peren Police under supervision of SP launched massive search operation for the safe custody of the victims, the SP stated.

Senior field officers and other ranks of DEF Peren and IR personnel were detailed and deployed for the operation. After cultivating various intelligence sources as well as technical surveillance, a thorough study of terrain was also carried out to identify and zero down on the possible location and hideout of the kidnappers.

After intense search and tracking the hilly terrain, the police team identified and reached the location of the kidnappers. On reaching the locations, there was exchange of fire which the Police team responded on equal measure.

On being overpowered by the Police in the exchange of fire, the kidnappers retreated and fled for their safety. The Police then overran the makeshift camp of the abductors and the two persons were rescued without any harm or injury on their person, the SP said. 

Arms and ammunitions including mobile phones and wireless sets were also recovered from the camp. It also apprehended one person in the operation, the SP further revealed. 

In this connection, a regular case has been registered in Peren Police Station under appropriate and relevant sections of law. Investigation is on to ascertain the identity of any group or individuals involved in this case, the SP stated while adding that further progress on the case shall be provided in due course of time.
