Our Correspondent Kiphire | October 5 For the second consecutive years, Abide Club emerged as champions of the Kiphire District Football League defeating Legend Club in a penalty shootout after both teams were locked in a 1-1 draw at the end of stipulated time. In an exciting match viewed by thousands of spectators this evening at the Local Ground Kiphire, Legend Club took an early lead through Lisecho in the first ten minutes of the match. Abide Club fought back and equalised in the 30th minute through Atongba. In the second half, the Legends were punished with a penalty for a handball inside the 18 yard box, however, Abide failed to convert the penalty as both team ended with one goal apiece at the end of the 90 minutes. The game was decided via a penalty shootout with Abide edging out the Legends 3-2. Abide Club walked away with cash prize of Rs. 40,000, certificates and medals while Legend Club received Rs. 20,000, certificates and medals. In the individual prizes, Atongba of Abide was awarded the highest scorer, while teammate Thronjumong was awarded the best goalkeeper. Lanu Wapang of 14 IR E coy was awarded the best defender while Among of DC XI won Golden boot award. Ellen Club was awarded the best discipline team. Altogether, 8 teams took part in the tournament which was organised by the District administration and the Veteran football association.
