Dimapur, July 20 (MExN): Abiogenesis, the “first Naga Folk fusion band from Nagaland” has released a new album titled ‘Tales In Harmony’ on July 20 through Songdew Music Label based in Gurgaon. The album is available for streaming and purchase on all International major digital platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, etc.
Their last album Legacy of the Mountains was released in 2012, stated a press lease issued by Nungsang Ozukum, PR Abiogenesis.
The new album is in their signature Naga Howeymusic genre which is a fusion of Naga folk tunes with various forms of modern rhythms and has seven tracks with six Naga folk fusions and one with Indian beats.
Chathe Breeze is a reggae song which describes about the soothing effect the river breeze brings during the hot summer months in and around Dimapur. Asen Lima (Our Land) is in Ao-Naga dialect which highlights the danger of Nagas becoming a minority in their own land.
Rajdhani Express - a song dedicated to Rajdhani Express - the trains are amongst the premium services operated by Indian Railways and regularly get a higher priority on the railway network. Drizzle is a soothing bamhum instrumental piece. Spell Peace – with the world scenario abuzz with threats for 3rd world war, the band thought it apt to appeal for world peace and order through this song. She’s A Thief is a song from their Howey musical play “Putu and His Tiger Spirit”, the play which Abiogenesis theatre group had performed in Gubbi in Karnataka in 2018. Merangti in Ao-Naga dialect means Try, an instrumental piece.
The seven tracks are a mixture of both vocals and instrumentals with the indigenous Naga wind bamboo musical instrument, Bamhum as the leading instrument, which gives the raw exotic tone blended with Naga chants and cries and occasional choruses. Tikzik, the bamboo percussion with multiple sounds is also played in most of the tracks. Incorporation of Bamhum and Tikzik into their music brought about a huge change to how Abiogenesis sounds today which also makes them unique and different from other bands.
Since Abiogenesis promotes Naga indigenous Naga music, the band has appealed to the people to come forward and support the band by streaming or buying their album or select songs in any of the platforms and to keep watching their videos at youtube handle @abiogenesis88.
“Formed in 1991, Abiogenesis is surviving for 33 years because of the love and support shown continuously by the people,” the release stated. Abiogenesis are Arenla Subong on Vocals & lead bamhum, Aso Kinavi Yim on drums & Tikzik, Kora Aier on Bass and Moa Subong on rhythm guitar, bamhum, Tikzik & harmonica.
