DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 5 (MExN): Convenor of Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT), Tia Longchar on Saturday announced his resignation from the organisation citing ideological difference and the completion of ACAUT’s primary objectives.
“In my eleven years of journey with ACAUT, inspite of my shortcomings I have given my best for the good of this path breaking movement to bring about changes in our Naga society. Personally, I have learned many life lessons and now the realisation has dawned on me that my journey with ACAUT must come to an end. Unlike registered organisation, for a public movement like ACAUT one cannot cling onto it when ideological differences emerges and when it has almost attained its self-mandated tasks of generating public awareness to raise voice against oppressions of all kinds,” a press note from Tia Longchar read.
He said ACAUT has been instrumental in raising public awareness through Right To Information (RTIs) and Public Interest Litigations (PILs), exposing widespread corruption and advocating for the resolution of the ongoing Indo-Naga political issue. The movement’s rally on October 31, 2013, which popularized the slogan "One Government One Tax," continues to resonate with the people of Nagaland, he added.
Additionally, in collaboration with the Business Association of Nagas (BAN) and Public Action Committee (PAC), ACAUT successfully challenged illegal taxation practices, resulting in the dissolution of check gates by the Governor of Nagaland in May 2022. The movement has also played a key role in urging the Government of India to expedite political negotiations with Naga Political Groups (NPGs).
Longchar maintained that he is resigning as Convenor of ACAUT on his own accord. He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and the opportunity to lead the movement.
