Despite the state’s progress in the agriculture sector, Nagas  still remain deficient in food grains. However, access to food for all through the Public Distribution System is being assured, said Governor K. Sankaranarayanan while speaking on the occasion of Republic Day here today. The targeted Public Distribution System with its components of BPL, APL, AAY and Annapurna schemes need to be revitalized and properly implemented as there is ample scope for diversions, he said adding that it also requires officials and community to be vigilant.

“In the limited period of President’s Rule, effective PDS monitoring and implementation is one of the thrust areas to have maximum impact for the common man” he stated. The Governor also said that verification in rural areas must be done by the EACs and SDOs while in urban areas by the SDOs and ADCs. Other essential commodities like Kerosene must also be made available to the common man.
