ACYA hosts 2nd Vikepelhu Lucas Meyase Memorial Volleyball Trophy

KOHIMA, MAY 4 (MExN): The Angami Catholic Youth Association (ACYA) organised the 2nd Vikepelhu Lucas Meyase Memorial Volleyball Running Trophy on May 3 at St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Viswema. The one-day tournament, hosted by St. Joseph Church, Viswema Village, witnessed the participation of 47 teams in both men’s and women’s categories.

In the men’s final, CYA St. John the Evangelist Church, Khonoma emerged champions, defeating CYA St. Paul Church, Phesama. Khrielekho Philip (Phesama) and Mhiesileto Edmund (Khonoma) were jointly adjudged best setters.

In the women’s category, CYA St. Xavier Church, Kidima clinched the title, while CYA St. John the Evangelist Church, Khonoma finished runners-up. Mhiesimeno Margaret (Khonoma) and Vikusale Veronica Thol (Kidima) were named best setters.

Semi-finalists in the women’s category included CYA Rosa Mystica Church, Rüzaphema Block-III and CYA Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Zhadima. In the men’s section, the semi-finalists were CYA St. Luke Church, Mima and CYA St. Michael Church, Kigwema.

Angami Catholic Union (ACU) vice president Mhiesinguto Mark, who graced the inaugural function underscored the significance of preserving one’s cultural identity and said sports could also serve as a spiritual act of glorifying God.

Rokosekho Ronald Meru reflected on the legacy of Vikepelhu Lucas Meyase, in whose memory the trophy is named.
