The Aboi District Demand Committee (ADDC) in its justification dated 27/6/2017 stated that the demand for Aboi district is a genuine demand for the economic development of Upper Konyaks and fulfils the requisite criteria for establishment of a district.

The ADDC reiterated their demand during a press conference here today while justifying that there are no objections or disputes with regard to land between neigbouring tribes/NGO’s in the demand for upgrading Aboi ADC to district.

Among other list of justification, it stated that Aboi Hq. is located geographically at the heart of the Konyak area from North to South and East to West and has the potential for easy development in various fields with various resources like land, water, forest etc.

In its representation submitted to the Chief Minister dated 05-05-2017, the Committee stated that Aboi Town is one of the oldest townships in Nagaland. It was established in 1955 as Base Superintendent, upgraded to Circle Officer in 1958, upgraded to EAC in 1978, upgraded to SDO in 1981 and then upgraded to ADC HQ in 1997.

“Since then, Aboi town is equipped with all the required facilities to upgrade as district HQ,” stated the representation signed by Aboi District Demand Committee, KU Aboi Unit, KU Longchang Unit and KU Chen unit.

On January 2, 2018, the Aboi District Demand Committee along with KU Aboi Unit and vice chairman Adhoc Town Committee submitted an ultimatum to Chief Minister Nagaland for immediate requisition of Aboi district prior to any other in the list, on or before January 10, 2018.

The ADDC in their ultimatum urged that Aboi’s prerogative be given top most priority “failing which the Aboi public will take its own course of action”. The state government, it added, will be fully responsible for both past and future actions.

It may be recalled that the public of Aboi on January 10 staged a peaceful rally at Aboi town in solidarity to the demand for upgrading the ADC to a district.
