Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD) and Taxes Advisor, Kudecho Khamo inaugurated the newly upgraded Government High School (GHS) Rukizu, Pfutsero on February 28.
Addressing the gathering, Khamo stated that the educational institution should serve as a place that imparts education and enlightens minds so that students would one day become leaders and various professionals who contribute to society and help build a better world.
He acknowledged Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, who is also the Chairman of the State Level Education Committee (SLEC), and Advisor for School Education and SCERT, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, along with other concerned officials for upgrading the school from Government Middle School to Government High School (GHS), which was a long-felt need of the people.
Khamo stated that Pfutsero has become a centre for the Chakhesang community even though the administrative headquarters is at Phek Town, and that Pfutsero has developed into an educational centre and is also being considered a commercial centre of the district.
He appreciated the community’s participation and concerted efforts towards the realisation of the cherished aspirations for the school.
He said that depending on the lone government-aided high school at Pfutsero had become a challenge for students seeking admission, causing inconvenience for parents despite their children passing out from middle schools. He added that the upgradation of GHS Rukizu would not only cater to the educational needs of people from Rukizu locality but also the Phek district as a whole.
He placed on record his appreciation for the landowners who donated the school site, describing their sacrifice as visionary for the locality, town and posterity, as the land has now become public property.
Highlighting that there are changes in Naga society and governance, Khamo stated that education should be viewed beyond merely studying in school to secure government jobs. He urged students to remain faithful believers, pursue various professions and strive to become employers rather than employees, giving back to society and working for its betterment.
He maintained that there is no space for lazy people in today’s competitive world, whether in government jobs or in the business sector where competition is intense.
He added that banks and financial institutions are willing to extend support to honest and promising entrepreneurs, and asserted that government schemes are meant only for those who are truly committed in their pursuits and capable of delivering sustainable outcomes.
Khamo encouraged the Chakhesang people and residents of Pfutsero to realise and embrace the changing dynamics so that younger generations are trained and prepared to cope successfully.
Speeches were also delivered by Razouseyi Vese, Director of School Education, Nagaland and P. Lohe Chachei, Sub-Divisional Education Officer (SDEO), Pfutsero.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Velakho Sakhamo, Teacher-in-Charge, GHS Rukizu Pfutsero.
The programme was led by Nuvezo Kotso, Councillor, Pfutsero Town Council (PTC) while vote of thanks was proposed by Vekusu Chuzho, Chairman, SMDC GHS Rukizu Pfutsero.
