Advocacy on National Legal Services Authority Schemes conducted

Kohima, August 25 (MExN): Kohima DLSA panel lawyers on the invitation of the Kohima Lotha Baptist Church in men fellowship presented advocacy on National Legal Services Authority Schemes, 2015-16 on August 24.
A press release issued by the NSLSA Public Relations Assistant stated that Mhayani Kikon, PL spoke on NALSA (legal services to victim of disaster) 2015-16. The PL informed the fellowship on the main objective of legal services to victim of disaster and stressed on its strategy intervention by the state legal services authority for helping the victims of disaster to ensure immediate relief by government and non government agencies to the victims and coordinate the activities of different departments of government and NGOs for bringing relief measures to the victims.
The scheme also extends to supervise the construction of temporary shelter and transport to the victim to safer place and ensure the availability of food, safe drinking to the victim by the health department. It is also further entitled to organize legal aid clinic to the affected areas for assisting in reconstruction of valuable documents and take care of the rehabilitation and the future care and education to the orphaned children during the disaster who lost their parents, she mentioned.
Furthermore, arrangement of bank loans for restarting the lost business during disaster and supervising the needs of women and children during the disaster are among other benefits of the scheme.
Mhechiete U Kenye, PL presented on NALSA (Legal Services to Senior Citizen) scheme 2016. The panel lawyer spoke about the importance of older person in the society and how they are being neglected by the younger generation. “Some of the senior citizens face challenges whether it is social, economic, physical, mentally for which the scheme came about. The ultimate objective of Nalsa scheme 2016 is to ensure that the senior citizen live a life of dignity and enjoy all the benefits and facilities which are due to them,” the PL noted.
Other governmental scheme like IGNOAPS, IGNWPS, IGNDPS etc are available for senior citizen.
Vikehiepie Sirie, PL presented on NALSA (child friendly legal services to children and their protection) Scheme 2015. The PL shared an overview on the scheme and Juvenile justice care and protection Act, the protection and rights of the juvenile in conflict with law as well the functions and procedures of the JJB were shared.
Explaining the connection of RTE and prohibition of Child Labour, the PL said that one cannot keep or send Children as domestic helper for reasons of economic disability. The aims and objectives of the Right to free and compulsory education Act, The Child Labour (prohibition and regulation) Act were also shared.
