Advocate raises concerns over paucity of non-judicial stamp papers in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, MARCH 9 (MExN): An Advocate has highlighted a pressing issue concerning the shortage of smaller denomination of non-judicial stamp papers in the State.

According to the press release, Advocate Kitoka Sumi emphasized that the unavailability of smaller denomination non-judicial stamps has severely hampered the execution of various legal transactions for individuals and business alike. He pointed out that the paucity of smaller denomination of non-judicial stamps in the State of Nagaland has been a regular phenomenon for the past many years.

The Advocate elaborated that diverse groups adversely affected by the unavailability of smaller denominations of non-judicial stamp papers are the general public which includes ordinary citizens, residents, consumers, vulnerable & marginalized groups, non-professionals and students; small businesses and entrepreneurs; legal professionals; Government departments and agencies; economically disadvantaged individuals and real estate sector.

Thus, the non-availability of smaller denominations of non-judicial stamp papers undermines the principles of efficiency and convenience in legal transactions. Addressing this issue is crucial to ensuring equitable access to justice, promoting business growth, and streamlining administrative processes for individuals and businesses, he informed.

Though the scarcity of non-judicial stamp papers is attributable by several factors such as printing capacity, demand-supply gap, administrative issues, corruption & fraud, technology & digitization, and legal reforms & changes, Advocate Sumi said ensuring the availability of stamps is crucial for maintaining the integrity of legal and financial transactions and for generating revenue in a welfare State.   The State has a fundamental responsibility to ensure the well-being of its citizens by addressing their essential requirements, he added.
