African Swine Fever outbreak in Nagaland

Kohima, April 17 (MExN): The outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Nagaland has been notified by the State Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services.

According to the department, the outbreak was confirmed through RTPCR test by National Institute of High Security Animal Disease, Bhopal from the samples submitted from Phek and Kiphire.

The outbreak is notified as per the ‘The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Disease in Animal Act, 2009’, a DIPR report informed.

Further, a radius of 1 Km from the epicentre of the disease outbreak at Phek and Kiphire has been declared Infected Zone (IZ) and a radius of 10 Km as Surveillance Zone with immediate effect until further notice.

The public, pig farmers, pig traders, butchers, village functionaries, ward / colony members have been requested to remain cautious and vigilant and report any unusual mortality of domestic pigs and feral pigs to the nearest Veterinary Institute.

It also appealed for public assistance in sero-surveillance, control, containment and eradication as per the National Action Plan issued by the Government of India.
