Imphal | August 24

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh and his team returned to Imphal from New Delhi on Monday. The chief minister and those resigned Congress MLAs were camping in New Delhi for a week.

The chief minister left Imphal for Delhi on August 16 along with six resigned Congress MLAs who later formally joined the BJP in the presence of some Central leaders of the party at New Delhi.

The chief minister and his team camped at the national capital with a plan to meet Union Home minister Amit Shah.  However, they came back without meeting the Union Home minister as the latter is currently undergoing medical treatment at AIIMS hospital in Delhi. The chief minister and his team had to return back to Imphal as there was no fixed date for the discharge of the Union Home minister from the hospital, a reliable source here said.

The chief minister and others arrived at Imphal Airport this afternoon, around 3 pm and underwent tests for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, it appears now that the issue of by-elections to several assembly seats in Manipur is going to be the talk of the moment in the state.

As many as 13 seats of the state Assembly are lying vacant after nine of the sitting MLAs tendered their resignations and the disqualifications of four of legislators by the assembly Speaker. However it is not certain as yet as to how many seats by-elections would be held as cases of some resigned and disqualified MLAs were pending in the court still.
