Kohima, January 15 (MExN): The agitating candidates of the ongoing NPSC combined technical examinations have accused the Commission of playing with the career of hundreds of students by making sudden changes in the examination pattern. In a three points charter of demands put forth to the Commission, the aggrieved candidates demanded that the present examination be invalidated, reschedule it and take a multiple choice questions pattern, so as to allow the aspiring candidates to prepare well for the new pattern of examination.
Supported by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and Angami Students’ Union (ASU), the candidates staged a peaceful demonstration with placards and banners some of which read “NPSC – Never Play with Students’ Career”, “Fulfill our 3-point charter of demand”, “We demand cancellation of the CTS examination”, “Don’t suppress our rights” today
While demanding that the NPSC authority deliver justice, the candidates also declared not to remain silent unless their demands are fulfilled. The candidates under the banner of Combined Technical Services Association also maintained that ‘indefinite deferring of the exams simply shows the incapability and inefficiency of the NPSC officials to serve the commission. The candidates further expressed resentment on the clarification issued by the NPSC that the change in the pattern of examination was informed beforehand. The candidates also alleged that the NPSC had mentioned clearly that the questions would be set in multiple choice questions while issuing the forms and the change was informed only a month ahead.
On the clarifications of NPSC that out of the 639 candidates 445 have completed their exams for 19 posts, the candidates said the NPSC was playing with numbers games and trying to confuse the people. Terming it as baseless, the candidates said that the examination is for 81 technical posts and exams have been conducted for only 19 posts while another 62 posts are to be fulfilled.
Hundreds of students also staged a peaceful walk around the DC Gate till the NPSC office shouting slogans such as “Shame Shame – NPSC”, “NPSC deliver justice”, “Down Down – NPSC” etc.
It may be mentioned here that the NSF and ASU called on the State Governor, K. Sankaranayanan and submitted a memorandum demanding for invalidation of the whole examination and rescheduling of the said examination so as to give the candidates a sufficient time for preparation. The students’ bodies also expressed dismay over the manner in which the Commission functioning and asked the latter to stick to the first information issued for conduct of the examination in the old MCQ pattern, instead of descriptive and objective type questions.
It was learnt that the Governor has assured the NSF that he would look in to the matter and find an amicable solution.
