1) The 9 Point Agreement (June 1947)
This was the first agreement signed between the GOI and the Nagas. it was signed between the Governor of Assam Sir. Akbar Hydari and the Nagas. It recognized the rights of the Nagas relating to the Judicial, Legislative, Executive, Land, Taxation, Boundaries, Arms Act, Regulations and the time period of the Agreement. But after His sudden death, the GOI in 1949, declared the Agreement invalid even before its implementation without giving any reasons.
2) 16 Point Agreement (26 July 1960)
The Nagas were tricked into signing the 16 points resolutions which became the 16 Point Agreement. They were hurriedly made to sign away their birthright for mere nothings. The Indians in return succeeded in partitioning the Nagas into three states which has become an obstacle in solving the Naga issue and the reason for the deadlock of the subsequent peace talks. It also sowed the seeds of suspicion and discordance but worse things were yet to follow.
3) Ceasefire agreement (September 4, 1964)
More than eight rounds of talks were held but it was abrogated when the GOI introduced the Armed Forces Special Power Regulations on August 1972 along with inclusion to the Disturbed Area status. The NNC was declared an unlawful association and the silent bloody war that was to be the biggest abuse of Human Rights in the Naga history by the Indian Army began.
4) Shillong Accord (November 1975)
This agreement was another ploy by the GOI to suppress the Nagas aspiration for Independence. It led to the formation of the NSCN and the subsequent factional killings which created a deep wedge among the various Nagas tribes which is even felt to this day.
5) Cease fire between the NSCN (IM) and GOI; NSCN (K) and GOI
There have been numerous talks but still there is no sign of any solution. Meanwhile, taking advantage of the peaceful atmosphere, the Naga Nationalists have managed to run a parallel government and with free hand in taxation and misappropriation of the state fund in alliance with the state Govt. they have decayed, gone soft and lost their way. The ill gotten wealth and luxuries have made them lose their touch with the common man and i doubt if they even have the support of their own wives.
We can see The GOI has time and time again managed to hoodwink the politically gullible Nagas through their various devious means and devices. They have designed and created atmospheres that will make the Nagas commit themselves in their own political trap in order to suppress the uprising of the Naga Movement for Freedom and to divide the Nagas along tribalistic lines. The Indians, taking advantage of our tribalistic mentality has managed to sow seeds of suspicion among the Nagas when time seems to be just ripe for a solution. They have managed to trick us into signing Agreements and holding Peace talks which on looking deeper insight have always managed to divide the Naga family. Lastly I wonder if the Indians are following what Nehru reportedly said, "Whether heaven falls or India goes to pieces and blood runs red in the country, I don't care. Whether I am here or for that matter any other body comes in, I do not care; Nagas will not be allowed to become independent."
