The 64th general conference of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) culminated here tonight with ex-MLA Nungsangyapang as the guest of honor. The conference also adopted a thirteen-point resolution, prominent among which included that the AKM will work for the establishment of a commerce college in Mokokchung district. The house also resolved to assist the authority in concern and ensure that timely action is taken for the revival of Tuli Paper Mill. It was also resolved that, basing on the theme of the current conference “Renaissance in the mode of economic growth,” the next general conference of AKM will be held in a self-reliant manner without having the need to import any consumer commodities from outside. It was also resolved that AKM will continue to check the unabated influx of illegal migrants and persist with “Survival 2007.”
Nungsangyapang while addressing the conference lauded the AKM for successfully carrying out the “Survival 2007” campaign. He also regarded the theme for the 64th general conference as relevant to the present state of affairs and continued that neither the individual nor the society will become self-reliant unless renaissance in the mode of economic growth is ushered in. He also emphasized on the importance of ‘unity’ and challenged the younger generation to stay away from sectarian principles. He particularly advised the students to prioritize their activities and to study well.
Earlier in the morning session, the main speaker for the conference Toshitsungba Aier IPS presented his speech on the topic “Business culture leads to sustainable economic growth.” President of Ao Senden, Temjenkaba, also exhorted the conference. The day also coincided with the 75th anniversary of Ao Milen, the oldest newspaper in Nagaland. Former president of AKM and the DPRO Mokokchung, Chubalepzuk Ao, narrated the history of Ao Milen.The following were also nominated to hold the office of the Ao Students Conference (AKM) for the tenure 2008-2010: S. Bendang Aier as president, Obanglemba as vice-president, Tongpangyabang as general secretary.
