AKTM finds anomalies in schools; makes demands to department

Mokokchung, April 18 (MExN): The Asetkong Students’ Conference (AKTM) has informed that its officials found many anomalies in the functioning of schools in its jurisdiction during their visit to the schools from April 13 to 18.  

The Conference has shared disappointment over the delay in distribution of textbooks for Government Primary School sections. Pointing out that the first quarterly assessment is just around the corner, it lamented the indifferent attitude of the government towards the student community.  

The AKTM officials asserted that the careers of the students are at stake due to delay in dispatch of textbooks and urged the Department to look into the matter with utmost urgency, so that students’ education does not get compromised and their regular classes are not affected.

  AKTM also found inadequate number of teachers in some schools and the vacancy created due to retirement, promotion, death etc are yet to be filled.  

The Conference pointed out that GPS Longjang Compound and GMS Sungratsu are in need of Hindi teachers immediately, while GPS Yimchalu which has only two teachers need adequate number of teachers.  

In this connection, the AKTM has demanded to the authority concerned to deploy the teachers to the requisite schools and fill the vacant post created by the retirement, promotion, and death etc.  

Subject teachers like Ao and Mathematics which are yet to be deployed in GHS Yisemyong and GHS Longjang (upgraded under RMSA) should be posted immediately, it added.  

The AKTM also mentioned that GHS Kobulong, which is going to celebrate its Golden Jubilee next year, needs total renovation of the school building. It stated that most of the class rooms walls are dilapidated, adding even the school toilets are in pathetic condition.  

The AKTM also urged the department concerned to release funds for cook honorarium under Mid Day Meal scheme and Grant-in aids for school maintenance. They expressed that non release of fund to the schools hinder the administrative functioning of the school.  

The AKTM also encountered some schools "neglecting" their normal working hours and retiring early citing various reasons. It added that in certain schools, non-teaching staff were found abstaining from their duties. In this regard, the AKTM warned that such practices during school working hours and abstaining from their duties will not be tolerated and will initiate action against such practices through proper channel.  

The Conference further stated that as an apex student body of the range, it will always stand for the welfare and betterment of the students and appealed to the department to fulfill the grievances laid out by it. The AKTM also warned that if the grievances are not fulfilled then the student body will take its own course of action.
