All efforts made to secure Nagaland border: Y Patton

Nagaland Home Minister, Y Patton, has said Nagaland State government is putting all efforts to secure the state’s border, particularly along the Assam-Nagaland border.  

“In order to secure our border and strengthen the hand of the field level administrative officers, adequate provision is being made for improving the infrastructure in the border areas like drinking water, road connectivity and offices and quarters for our border magistrates,” the Home minister said.  

Patton who addressed the 70th Independence Day celebration held at Multi-Disciplinary Outdoor Sports Complex at Peren district headquarters, said in the recent past, there were some concerns along the Assam-Nagaland border areas, particularly in the areas adjoining Doldoli Reserved Forest but that these were effectively dealt with by the district administration and police.  

He said while the border issue between Nagaland and Assam is pending adjudication in the Supreme Court, to maintain peace and tranquility in the disputed border areas of Assam and Nagaland, Border Peace Coordination Committees (BPCC) have been formed in all the districts bordering Assam. The BPCCs comprise of representatives from both the states of Assam and Nagaland purely on voluntary basis.  

On the law and order front, the Home minister said that the overall situation in the state continues to remain peaceful.  

Patton said the law and order situation in Tuensang and Kiphire districts was now returning to normalcy and thanked the sincere and untiring efforts made by civil society including ENPO, ENSF, ENWO, ENLU, churches and the mediators appointed by the government.

“To strengthen infrastructure for the Police, construction of office of the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, and IGP (Int), Kohima, is being taken up during 2016-17. Initiatives like installation of 23 CCTV cameras in the New Market area, Dimapur, on 29th March, 2016, will help control crime in our urban areas,” he said.  

The Home Minister also informed that the government has decided to upgrade the Women’s Cells in Dimapur and Kohima to full-fledged police station, with the rest of the districts to follow soon.  

Earlier, the Home minister took the salute from the six parade contingents- DEF Peren, 9th IR Bn, Assam Rifles, Sainik School Punglwa, Peren Govt. College and All Saints HSS Peren.  

The minister also gave away ATMA Farmers’ awards to progressive farmers of the district.
