‘All policemen are not collectors’

Pointing out the general perception that all policemen were ‘collectors,’ Additional Director General of Police, Nagaland, G. Akheto Sema, IPS differed on the view and opined that such observation emanated owing to few personnel going astray.   He said even those personnel involved in such unlawful activities were a part of the society and were related to all communities in one way or the other.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the 25 years celebration of Philimi Welfare Dimapur (PWD) at NER Agri Expo site 4th Mile Dimapur on Friday, Akheto spoke about the clean election campaign and called for every individual to support the cause. “When election comes, our people forget about the Christian values and everyone thinks of earning something out of it,” he said and added that there needed to be a strong action plan with punitive clauses without which it might remain only a mere slogan.

Talking about the low economic position of the Nagas, he said such situation was taking place owing to the people living beyond their means. “Having a job does not only mean getting into the government sector but there are lots of avenues in the private sector and our youngsters should be ready to explore such areas with employability skills with them,” Akheto added.

The Police officer also called for reorienting the Naga mindset in doing business and focus on customer care instead of “take it leave it attitude.”

On the education sector, Akheto rued that the government appoints qualified teachers but the unqualified ones in the form of proxy were teaching the students thereby destroying generations.

Pointing to the logo of PWD which showed a hand lifting another hand, Akheto said it was quite appropriate with their nomenclature ‘Welfare.’ “A welfare would mean thinking, helping and doing good towards one another in all times good and bad,” he said and encouraged the gathering to accelerate their life towards progress and development.

Convenor, PWD Jubilee Planning Board, S. Khutolu Wotsa in his closing remarks emphasized on the need to uplift one another and march ahead in unity.

A host of invitees including Philimi Welfare Kohima, Khrimto Welfare Dimapur, Rotomi Welfare Dimapur, in-laws of Philimi village and Philimi village GBs and Church leaders attended the jubilee celebration.
