All roads leading to NU in deplorable condition

SKK seek Governor’s intervention, says communication and transportation problem hampering aspiration of students at Lumami

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 13 (MExN): The All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK) has knocked on the doors of the Nagaland Governor for improvement of the deplorable road connectivity to Nagaland University (NU), Lumami.

A representation submitted to the Nagaland Governor PB Acharya, who is also the Chief Reactor of NU, sought his intervention to direct the concerned as well as competent authority to immediately look into the deplorable road condition connecting Lumami, the headquarters of the NU from all sides.

According to the SKK representation, the roads which need proper maintenance include those leading from Jorhat Airport and Mariani Railway Station to Zunheboto via Mokokchung to Lumami; from Kohima to Lumami via Wokha and from Tuensang to Mokokchung to Lumami.

The representation reminded that NU was founded with its Hq at Lumami in Zunheboto district with land donated by the villagers with a hope to make it a centre of learning and a place of intellectual discourse and academic empowerment.

It however rued that the dreams of the founding fathers and aspiration of the youth could not be realized wholly and in full manner due to communication and transportation bottlenecks-the road being in terrible conditions and many a times un-motorable.

“It is both tragic as well as ironical that in the age of digital and information technology, the highest institution of education could not be made accessible to the youths of not only Nagaland but the entire region of the North East, whole of India and the world,” the representation lamented.

The SKK has espoused hope that if road connectivity problem to NU-Lumami is solved, the university would deliver its full potential and compete with the rest of the world to fulfill the dream of its founding fathers.
