Nagaland state BJP legislator, PHED Minister Jacob Zhimomi maintained that the party’s state organizational set up is intact. His comment was in response to the allegation by party workers against the leadership of the BJP state unit president Temjen Imna Along Longkumer.
On June 24, the party’s Wokha, Kiphire, Phek, Kohima, Peren, Mon, Tuensang, Noklak, Aboi (organizational district) and Zunheboto unit presidents wrote to Ajay Jamwal, National General Secretary, BJP and North East In Charge, expressing discontent over what was termed as “dictatorial and autocratic” style of functioning of the state unit president.
In the memorandum to Jamwal, the 10 unit leaders demanded Longkumer’s dismissal alleging lack of transparency in Longkumer’s role as president, while also citing that he had “unceremoniously” removed the Phek unit President, “who was officially elected as per the party constitution.”
“These are all baseless allegations. There is no disparity in the BJP state unit. All district units, all (BJP) legislators are with the state president, Temjen Imna Along,” Zhimomi told The Morung Express on the sidelines of the BSL-2 laboratory inauguration at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) , Dimapur on June 27.
According to him, the 10 unit leaders should not have rebelled in the manner that they did. Reiterating there is no problem in Longkumer’s functioning or in the party set up in Nagaland, he said, “As per the party constitution, they will all be subject to party disciplinary actions because the state president Temjen Imna Along is acting only on the instruction of the Central BJP leadership. He does not take any decision from his table.”
While stating that there is a hierarchical order to it, he said that one should understand the basic functioning of the (BJP) party. He also claimed that the party does not function like a regional party which makes decisions at the regional or state level.
