Allegations against bureaucrat: ANCSU demands Nagaland DGP’s immediate intervention

Kohima, April 10 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students' Union (ANCSU) today called for the immediate intervention of the Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) regarding allegations of sexual harassment leveled against Reny Wilfred, Joint Secretary, Investment Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).

According to the union, female employees at the workplace were allegedly subjected to the harassment.

In a representation to DGP Rupin Sharma, the ANCSU also pointed out that the bureaucrat was previously accused of alleged sexual offence involving two minor girls during his tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Noklak.

The clearly justifies that he is an “aggravated repeated offender of sexual harassment and assault,” it held.

Expressing grave concern over non-resolution of  previous cases, the union urged the State DGP “to promptly investigate this serious case without further delay and take necessary action” in accordance with relevant law.

The union will not be a mere spectator but will remain vigilant in this case till justice is delivered to the victims at all costs, it asserted, expressing confidence that the DGP would “address this case on urgency and prevent unnecessary confrontation from the students' community.”

DNSU corroborates NSF’s stance
Meanwhile, on April 9, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) endorsed the Naga Students’ Federation’s (NSF) stand on the issue and demanded an expeditious resolution of the sexual harassment allegations.

Describing the allegation as “egregious acts,” the DNSU echoed the NSF's ‘consternation and righteous indignation at the protracted languor exhibited in adjudicating this profoundly serious matter.’

“We find it utterly reprehensible that despite the severity of these allegations and the manifest trauma inflicted upon the victims, the investigation remains in a state of desultory inertia,” the DNSU added in a press release.

Accordingly, the DNSU called for prompt and decisive action against the accused, urging the Nagaland Police Headquarters to address the matter with the seriousness and urgency it warrants.

It further cautioned that any attempt to shield the accused from due process would be viewed as equally culpable and those involved held accountable by the Naga people.

Reaffirming its stance, the DNSU expressed full solidarity with the NSF in monitoring the case and stated it would not tolerate any efforts to delay or obstruct the course of justice.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media on April 9, Wilfred denied the allegations and instead counter-alleged political conspiracy and other tactics aimed at tarnishing his reputation. Some media outlets reported that an FIR had been registered, but this could not be independently confirmed by this newspaper.
