Maligaon, August 31 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has undertaken several customer-focused initiatives to facilitate freight operations, improve freight handling facilities and augment railway freight revenue across its network, an official NFR statement said.
As part of the initiatives, Kharahat station under Tinsukia Division was opened for handling inward pre-stressed concrete (PSC) sleeper traffic from July 1, 2026.
Similarly, New Missamari station under Rangiya Division was opened for handling inward military traffic from July 29, facilitating streamlined freight operations and efficient cargo movement.
NFR has also registered freight revenue from the loading of various commodities across its divisions.
Under Alipurduar Division, one rake of maize loaded from Falakata to Ranibennur generated freight revenue of Rs 0.74 crore. Another rake of rice loaded from Tufanganj to Jirania generated Rs 0.29 crore.
Under Katihar Division, 43 rakes of maize were loaded from Purnea, Ranipatra, Arariya, Jalalgarh, Rahamatpur, Bathnaha, Surja Kamal, Dalkhola and Katihar, generating freight revenue of Rs 29.72 crore.
Lumding Division also recorded significant freight loading, with 315 wagons of stone chips booked, generating Rs 1.37 crore in freight revenue.
In addition, 1,921 wagons of cement were booked, contributing Rs 9.06 crore, while 196 wagons of Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) generated Rs 2.38 crore in freight revenue.
Taken together, the freight loading cited in the statement generated Rs 43.56 crore in revenue.
NFR said the initiatives reflected its continued commitment to strengthening freight handling facilities and enhancing customer experience.
By promoting greater utilisation of rail for diverse commodities, the railway is facilitating efficient and reliable freight movement while supporting regional trade, logistics and economic growth, it said.
