Kohima, August 1 (MExN): Medziphema and Dimapur battalions of Assam Rifles apprehended an alleged Commander of the newly formed Barak State Liberation Force (BSLF) during a joint operation launched in Notun Bosti, Dimapur along with a police representative of Dimapur West Police Station on July 26. The Commander identified as Md Salim Ahmed alias Soloman Sheikh (34) was apprehended along with one .22mm pistol with magazine and six rounds of .22mm live ammunition, stated a press release from Maj L Vincent Patton, PRO, HQ IGAR (North). It alleged that the apprehended person also admitted of “involvement in extortion, kidnapping and purchase of arms and ammunition for raising of the Group in Silchar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts of Assam.” The apprehended along with the recovered items was handed over to Dimapur East Police Station.
NSCN (K) cadre apprehended
In another incident, Dimapur battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended an NSCN (K) cadre identified as Asheto Sema (32) from Dilai Gate, Dimapur on July 24. One 9 mm factory made pistol with magazine, live ammunitions and cash amounting to Rs 2,630 were recovered from him, the IGAR (N) PRO said in another press release. The cadre along with the recovered items was handed over to West Police Station, Dimapur, it was informed.
GPRN/NSCN official held
A joint team of 36 Assam Rifles and Ahthibung Police launched a search operation on July 25 in Ahthibung and apprehended one Daniel (35), a Sgt Major of GPRN/NSCN. He was apprehended with one .22mm country made pistol, informed a separate press release from HQ IGAR (N). The release claimed that the individual has been “actively involved in tax collection as Chief Guard Duty at Athibung.” He along with the recovered item was handed over to Ahthibung Police Station.
