Amaluma Village attains century

Dimapur, December 28 (MExN): Amaluma Village marked turning 100 years (1917-2017) with a grand celebration which saw over 2000 people attending in traditional attires at the village play ground on December 23.  

Nagaland Governor PB Acharya accompanied by his lady wife Kavita Acharya graced the celebration as Chief Guest while Tokheho Yepthomi, MLA of Dimapur III AC, was the Guest of Honour.  

Governor Acharya in his address congratulated the people of the village and reminded them of Mahatma Gandhi’s viewpoint that the strength of India lies in the development of the village.  

Pointing out that India is a union of states, Governor Acharya remarked that every state should be corruption free since they are the pillars of the country and for that every state should strive to make villages progress.  

He added that villages in Nagaland would be developed if every MP, Minister, and MLA adopt at least one village every year during their term in office.  

Earlier, Acharya unveiled a Monolith erected in commemoration of the centenary celebration.  

Guest of Honour Tokheho Yepthomi released a souvenir published in commemoration of the centenary and greeted the people on the completion of 100 years.  

A brief history of Amaluma village was highlighted by the Convenor of the celebration committee Thangnodao Naiding.  

L. Khevishe Achumi, Vice President of Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) reminded the gathering of the age old relation between the Sumi and the Kachari communities.  

Also addressing the gathering, S.K. Khemprai, Advisor to the Kachari Tribal Council, Nagaland, expressed dissatisfaction over the slow growth of development particularly in the field of education, health, agriculture and water supply due to non availability or insufficient provision of Governmental facilities in Dhansiripar Sub-Division in which Amaluma village falls.
