Amidst curfew that has been clamped throughout the district, shops in East Khasi Hills district will be opened for four day from Monday onwards to enable people to purchase basic and essential commodities.
This was informed by Deputy Commissioner (DC), Matsiewdor War Nongbri on Sunday who said, “All fair price shops under NFSA and Non-NFSA will open on April 20, 21, 22 and23 with effect from 9 am till 4 pm each day.”
Identified shops dealing in groceries and essential items will open in all the localities of Shillong agglomeration on the said days from 9 am till 4 pm.
The DC also informed that the list of selected shops has increased substantially to 1804 with 20 mobile units so as to meet the requirements of the people.
For villages in the district, the same arrangements have been made between the Block Development Officers or Zonal Team Leaders and the respective Rangbah Shnongs.
The DC also informed that vegetable, fruit, meat vendors and confectionary shops of the respective localities will also be opened during these four days.
Meanwhile, collection centres of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited, selected mobile repair shops and service centres in areas of Shillong agglomeration and adjoining areas and also stores of telecom providers under Pynursla and Sohra civil sub-divisions and in all blocks under the district will also remain open on the four days from 9 am till 4 pm.
Selected registered suppliers and retailers of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary department will also be opened exclusively for sale of livestock, poultry and pet feed.
Besides regulation of the shops in their respective localities, the Rangbah Shnongs in coordination with district police will ensure due compliance with the advisories of the Government in the Health & Family Welfare department with special and strict reference to social distancing.
