Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the inauguration of the 69th plenary session of North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong on January 23.

The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition will meet Shah and take up various issues including the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State.

“We had a meeting today and we will be meeting the Union Home minister. We have sought an appointment. We don’t know yet what time we will be given (to meet him),” Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed on Tuesday.

Tynsong said that the major issues the MDA government will be taking up with Union Home Minister are – the resolution passed by the Meghalaya Assembly to urge the Centre to implement ILP in Meghalaya, the inclusion of Khasi and Garo Languages in the Eight Schedule of the Constitution, the proposed amendments to the Sixth Schedule and the long pending boundary dispute with Assam.

Tynsong also informed that the NGOs had officially written to the State government expressing their desire to meet the Union Home Minister and arrangements are being made for the same.

Shah is expected to land in Shillong at around 10:00 am on January 23 and head straight for the State Convention Centre where he will inaugurate the plenary meeting and return to Guwahati the same day.
