KOHIMA, June 19 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) and its affiliated colleges across the state on Thursday observed a State-wide ‘Black Friday’ as the first phase of its democratic agitation against the State Government’s continued failure to address the long-pending construction of a 100-bedded Girls’ Hostel at Kohima Science College Autonomous, Jotsoma.
The agitation was launched following the expiry of an ultimatum served by ANCSU to the concerned authorities, with the union citing a lack of satisfactory response or visible progress despite repeated representations and appeals.
Terming the government’s inaction over the critical educational infrastructure project as “deeply disappointing and unacceptable,” the union said the delay directly impacts the welfare, safety and academic aspirations of hundreds of female students.

ANCSU President Kivika Yeptho and Assistant General Secretary Imnawabang T Lkr in a press release expressed appreciation to all affiliated and associate units for their “unwavering solidarity” in making the State-wide protest a success, saying the overwhelming response reflected the students’ community’s collective frustration over the government’s failure to honour its responsibilities.
The union reiterated that its demand for immediate construction and completion of the Girls’ Hostel was “non-negotiable” and a matter of urgent priority, warning that responsibility for any escalation of agitation would rest solely on the concerned authorities.
ANCSU cautioned the State Government and the concerned department to take “immediate and concrete measures” to address the issue without further delay, and announced that a massive State-wide protest rally would be launched in the days ahead as the next phase of its agitation.
