ANCSU submits representation to Nagaland University's VC

Proposes setting up more colleges, facilitation centres

Kohima, October 1 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students Union (ANCSU) on Thursday submitted a representation to the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Nagaland University (NU) seeking implementation of various measures for consideration.

The Union highlighted the ‘limited masters' degree seats’ in Nagaland and stressed the need for more colleges offering postgraduate courses in the State.

In this regard, ANCSU appealed to NU to assess eligible candidates who have applied for post graduate courses and approve the same for the forthcoming academic session.

This, according to the Union, would enable the aspiring students to study in the State itself and also “effectively facilitate the underlying problems arising from the global pandemic.”

The Union said that during its tour of colleges in the State, the inconveniences faced by many colleges and students were observed with regard to travelling to Lumami “for receiving and dispatching files and necessary documents due to long distance.”

As such, it proposed setting up of facilitation centres at the Meriema and SETM Dimapur campuses of the NU to facilitate submission and receiving of files and necessary documents.

The ANCSU also suggested online payment provisions or transactions to be made through the facilitation centres.

Regarding the appointment of Assistant/Associate Professors and salary, ANCSU appealed to the VC to be vigilant in appointment by both private and government colleges to strictly adhere to the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines for requisite qualifications.

The university was also requested to be vigilant with regard to payment of salary by institutions to the faculties as per the UGC guidelines.

Felicitation of degree toppers by the ANCSU since 2018 was observed to be ‘of great encouragement’ to the students, it said.  As such, the Union appealed to NU to issue meritorious certificate and medal to the subject toppers annually along with the issuance of marksheet/convocation.

While acknowledging the commitment made by the NU in declaring the degree results on time, ANCSU also appealed for timely release of necessary documents to set conveniences for admissions in other institutes outside the state.

It highlighted the hardships faced by students over the years in acquiring their original pass certificates and migration certificates.

ANCSU opined that the University could expedite the required procedures or adopt alternative mode of fulfilling such procedures. The proposed facilitation centres could also be used as a medium of communication, it suggested.

It expressed hope that the ‘genuine representation’ would be considered and taken up on priority.
