ANCSU urges Nagaland University to re-examine exam schedule

Kohima, November 10 (MExN): The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) has appealed to the Nagaland University (NU) to re-examine its tentative examination schedule for undergraduates which is to be held through ‘offline mode.’

The union submitted a letter to the NU Vice Chancellor on November 10, stating that examination routine should be student friendly “unlike the recently declared exam routines which is herculean in nature.”

It also submitted a representation to the Nagaland Chief Secretary, seeking intervention on the matter.

It cited the revised University Grants Commission Academic Calendar and said that the exams for the present 1st, 3rd and 5th semester undergraduate degree students can be conducted during the month of March, 2021, instead of the proposed dates (December 7-21).

“However, the ANCSU place on record that, as per our findings, physical mode of examination is discouraged for the forthcoming examination. It will be appreciated if the possibility to conduct online exams can be thought upon as the situation remains inconducive,” it said in the letter.

“The ANCSU indubitably agree to the fact that in any circumstances the quality of education should not be compromised, for which act, the union harmonizes with the university in academic activities that will ensure meritocracy. While we battle this unprecedented pandemic, we must also put on utmost priority the safety of the colleges’ fraternity,” it added.

It urged the authorities at NU to thoroughly assess the prevailing situation and the revised UGC academic calendar so that the careers of the students are not put at stake.
