Anemia awareness seminar held in Dimapur & Medziphema

Dimapur, September 1 (MExN): An Anemia awareness seminar was held in Medziphema at its Town Hall, on August 29 and Dimapur on August 30 at Urban Primary Health Center, Burma Camp.
A DIPR report stated that the Anemia awareness seminar for adolescent girls held in Medziphema town was held under the Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan with Dr. Michelle MO, PHC Molvom as the resource person. It was attended by around150 students from different schools under Medziphema Sub Division.
During the programme, the resource person spoke on various issues an adolescent girl faces in her life and various types of Anemia an adolescent girl can suffer from and the ways to prevent it. After the seminar, Anemia detection camp was held for the participants with assistance from the medical doctors and staff of CHC Medziphema. Out of the 150 girl students, 27 girls were found to be anemic. Adequate treatment and medicines were given to the anemic students, informed the report.
The departments participating under the convergence programme of the Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan included District Administration, Social Welfare, PHED, School Education, Health and Family Welfare and IPR. The programme was chaired by K. Aholi, Supervisor, Social Welfare while the keynote address was delivered by I Tsungrosongla, CDPO Medziphema.

Meanwhile, the Department of Social Welfare Dimapur District in convergence with School Education and Health & Family Welfare conducted Anemia screening camp with the theme 'Prevention of Anemia in Adolescent girls and women in reproductive age group' at Urban Primary Health Center, Burma Camp, Dimapur on August 30.
A DIPR report stated that Dr Chamzai Newmai, MO gave an overview of causes, treatment and prevention of Anemia. About 70 girl students and 4 teachers from GHS Burma Camp participated and underwent the screening tests. Lactating and pregnant women also attended the camp. About 20 students were found to be moderately anemic after the test and free Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) tablets were distributed to those who attended the camp.
All six Project CDPOs and Supervisors under Dimapur District attended the camp which is a part of ongoing IEC and Advocacy of Rashtriya Poshan Abhiyan under National Nutrition Mission and also District Convergence Action Plan.
