WOKHA, JULY 23 (MExN): The first promotional Local Angling Competition was held on July 21 at Tsumang Lake, Wokha organized by the District Angler’s Wokha Nagaland (DAWN).
According to the DIPR, the event was graced by Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, ManazirJeelaniSamoon, IAS as the Special Guest. The competition was organized in collaboration with Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
DC Wokha, during the prize distribution ceremony, said the competition organized by the Angler’s association is not just for recreation purpose but for a cause and added that such initiative will go a long way in generating awareness among the common masses regarding the conservation of fishes and stated that angling need to be taken up as a sport activity with a cause.
When it comes to saving those endangered species of fishes from extinction it is the responsibility of every concerned individual to work together, he added. He also urged the gathering and participants to discourage the use of dynamites, chemicals and electronic equipment to catch fish as it leads to depletion of fishes because livelihood of many people depend on sustainability of fishes.
Johny Ezung, Rensathung Kikon and M Yilobemo were adjudged the first, second and third prize winners respectively and were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 20,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000.
More than 30 prizes were given in different categories to the anglers. 69 years old Ekyimo Erui was the oldest angler and he was awarded with a cash prize and certificate, while the luckiest angler was bagged by Simon Kikon.
