ANSAM change of guard held

Tahamzam/Senapati, January 31 (MExN): The All Naga Students' Association (ANSAM) held its Change of Guard ceremony for the 2024-26 tenure today at the ANSAM Secretariat Complex Office Building. The event was marked by a moment of silence to honor the departed souls of Tapan K. Bose, a staunch advocate for the Naga cause, and late MLA N. Kayisii.

Chief Election Commissioner Pungdi P. Celestine led the ceremony by inviting attendees to observe a one-minute prayer for the departed, recognizing their contributions to the Naga community.

In his Solidarity Message, UNC General Secretary Vareiyo Shatsang urged the students' community to refocus on ANSAM’s core purpose, questioning whether the organization had leaned too heavily into political affairs at the expense of student welfare and empowerment. He emphasized the importance of striking a balance between civic engagement and academic priorities.

Following the handover of files to the newly elected President, solidarity notes were shared by Priscilla Thiumai, President of the Naga Women’s Union. Outgoing President Luikang Luckson expressed confidence that the foundation and momentum of his tenure would continue to grow, fostering resilience within the organization.

Incoming President Angteshang Maring reaffirmed the new team’s commitment to maintaining the spirit of continuity and upholding the ANSAM Constitution. Reflecting on the respect the Naga people have earned through sacrifices made for Naga Nationalism, he also reminded the assembly of the Naga prisoners still languishing in jails, urging the community not to forget their plight.

The ceremony concluded with a dedicatory prayer led by M. Mashangtei, Former Pastor of New Eden Baptist Church. ANSAM, which comprises 17 constituent tribes and 2 subordinate bodies, will serve its new term until December 2026.
