The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) on Monday endorsed a 'genna' (restriction) called by the United Naga Council (UNC), leading to a shutdown in Naga areas of the state on October 29.
The restrictions are for a civic reception programme scheduled for NSCN(IM) general secretary Th. Muivah at the Senapati Stadium in Tahamzam (Senapati district).
In a statement, ANSAM directed the closure of all educational institutions and appealed for a cessation of all economic and commercial activities in Naga areas under its jurisdiction for the day.
Calling the event a "momentous occasion," the student body described Muivah as a "living legend" whose struggle embodies the "spirit of Naga unity, political rights, and national identity."
It appealed to all Nagas to attend the reception, stating that "attendance shall be regarded as a duty of honour and a moral obligation for every Naga."
The ANSAM also called upon the public to maintain peace and discipline during the observance, framing participation as a "sacred compulsion of national duty" to uphold Naga unity and the cause of self-determination. “Let this genna stand as powerful emblem of oneness, loyalty, and self -determination - a testimony that the Naga people remain united under one vision, one destiny, and one history May this day rekindle our faith, strengthen our unity , and inspire our generation to continue the sacred pursuit of peace, justice, and honourable political recognition,” it concluded.
