NSDMA forecasts heavy rain till August 9

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 5 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across the State between August 6 and 9, with weather activity expected to intensify on August 7 and moderate to heavy rainfall likely in some districts on August 8.

According to the weather outlook issued by the NSDMA, localized thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and light rain are expected across most districts on August 6. Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tuensang and Wokha are likely to experience scattered light rainfall, while Tseminyu and Zunheboto may witness thunderstorms with light to moderate rain over a wider area. "No active weather warnings are expected over Kiphire and Meluri" on the day, the authority stated.

On August 7, weather conditions are expected to become more active across Nagaland. Chümoukedima and Dimapur are likely to experience localized thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall, while Mokokchung, Peren, Wokha and Longleng may receive comparatively heavier rainfall. Most other districts are expected to witness localized thunderstorms with light rain at scattered locations.

The NSDMA said August 8 is likely to see the most significant rainfall activity during the forecast period. Longleng is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, while "Zunheboto may witness localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by moderate to heavy rainfall at scattered locations." Kiphire, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang are also likely to receive light to moderate rainfall.

Rainfall activity is expected to gradually decrease on August 9. However, Wokha and Peren may continue to receive light to moderate rainfall at scattered locations, while Kiphire, Mon and Zunheboto are likely to witness localized thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall at a few places. Most other districts are expected to receive light rain.
