Kohima | September 7
The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA) in its “open meeting” held here today near T.T. Stadium took a decision not to resort to strike or bandh at this juncture following the arrest of three accused by police in connection with the murder of taxi driver Swuduve Nakro.
In this, the Association asked the taxi drivers to resume their normal services in the larger interest of the public. It may be noted that registering its resentment, taxis refrained from plying here in the state capital on September 7.
The meeting urged the competent authority to impose befitting punishment to the accused. Addressing the taxi drivers, ANTA HQs Kohima President, Vibasetuo Solo said that as per the request of the association, the government has promised to grant ex-gratia to the victim’s family since late Swuduve Nakro was the only bread earner in the family. Solo said the Association would also seek the favour of the state government to assist in the education of late Swuduve Nakro’s children.
Later in the day, ANTA Kohima approached the Kohima Deputy Commissioner with a three point charter of demands. It demanded that a Grade IV appointment be given to the wife of Late Swuduve Nakro at any government department to look after the children.
It also demanded that the accused to be imprisoned without ‘parole’ and non-bailable sentence be imposed on them. The association demanded that security to the taxi drivers be enhanced and deeply mooted so as to curb any such incident in the future.
Meanwhile, ANTA HQs Kohima thanked Kohima Deputy Commissioner, administrative staff, SDPO (South), OC South and their personnel, IRB personnel, CCPO Kohima, Pholami village members and public for their cooperation, all drivers and owners of ANTA taxis and Chiechama youth for their support.
