WOKHA, AUGUST 7 (MExN): The All Nagaland Taxi Association (ANTA), Wokha Unit has reiterated its previous resolutions that restricted transportation of inflammable items (LPG, alcohol etc) in taxis and limited luggage weight at 20 kgs per passenger. An order has been issued for strict implementation of the resolutions.
In a press conference held at ANTA Wokha Unit office here on August 7, Unit officials led by its President Hayithung Odyuo and General Secretary Lipenthung Ovung addressed various issues pertaining to its activities and welfare of commuters.
The Unit stated that the resolutions were adopted solely with an aim to ensure passengers’ safety and highlighted past incidents where overloading of vehicles has resulted in loss of human lives. To this effect, the Unit also directed the taxi counters to implement the same.
Against the backdrop of the NRC publication in neighbouring Assam, the unit also expressed concern over the unchecked influx of illegal immigrants into the state especially via Merapani-Wokha route. In this regard, the unit while assuring to do its part, appealed its members to stay vigil and the law enforcement agency to strictly implement ILP laws.
Among other things, ANTA Wokha also directed its members to abide by the government order regarding conversion of ‘Zonal’ taxis to ‘Regional’ taxis.
On the issue of ‘Rate Review’ and its implications on commuters, the Unit has appealed all concerned to approach its office for redressal or to lodge their grievances. Meanwhile, ANTA Wokha has informed that it would be conducting mass social work at the counter area on August 11 and has therefore directed all its members to take part in it positively.
