Ao Senden condemns SC ruling on Oting Massacre

DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 7 (MExN): The Ao Senden has expressed shock and dismay over the recent Supreme Court judgment closing all proceedings against those involved in the killing of 14 unarmed Konyak Nagas on December 4. In a press release, the Ao Senden condemned the judgment, stating it was based on the Central Government's refusal to sanction prosecution, citing Section 6 of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958.

The Ao Senden urged the Indian Army to pursue disciplinary action against the personnel involved, as the Supreme Court indicated that its order does not prevent such action. The organization further criticized AFSPA, labeling it a “medieval” law that subjects the people of Nagaland to oppression and suffering under military power.

The Ao Senden expressed disappointment at the silence of elected representatives regarding the Oting incident and urged them to advocate for justice and ensure that such tragedies are not repeated. The group also called on the citizens of India to urge political parties and parliamentarians to repeal AFSPA, describing it as a "savage and barbaric" law that has no place in modern democratic society.
