Apex tribal bodies write to govt on ULBs election

DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 13 (MExN): The core committee of the apex tribal hohos/bodies of Nagaland has urged the Nagaland Government to honor the wishes of the people on the issue of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) election and effect the revocation of the November 24, 2016 resolution of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.  

A memorandum to this effect, undersigned by Angami Public Organization president, Dr Vilhusa Seleyi and Chakhesang Public Organization president, Kekhwengulo Lea on behalf of the core committee, was submitted to the Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang on Wednesday.  

The memorandum urged the Government put to “rest all contentious issues until such time the Municipal Act of Nagaland is thoroughly scrutinized to the advantage of the people to which every democratically elected Government is responsible, and such Amendment as acceptable be formalized.”  

It informed that the Naga people through the apex tribal hohos/bodies had a series of consultative meetings with the latest two being the tribal hohos meeting held on October 31, 2017 at APO Hall, Kohima and on December 5, 2017 at Kisama where in the “firm stance of the tribal people were continuously and consistently expressed every time.”
