The members of Association of Public Health Engineers Nagaland (APHEN) during its 4th General Conference held today at Saramati Hotel, Dimapur.

Dimapur, May 23 (MExN): The Association of Public Health Engineers Nagaland (APHEN) held its 4th General Conference today at Saramati Hotel, Dimapur.
APHEN President, Er.Y.Tep in his Presidential address said that APHEN was in existence since early eighties, but its activities were negligible and ultimately became defunct. However, he said that the need arose for an Association of Engineers of the department to look into the welfare of the members. With the revival of the Association, he informed that APHEN has grown from strength to strength and now it’s in its 12th year of existence today.
Relating the purpose of the 4th general conference, he expressed hope the meet will give ample opportunity to put its head together for discussion, retrospection and introspection on the course of professional efficiency and responsibilities of its members. He stated, “We the technocrats are responsible for asset creation and infrastructure development. Therefore, it is our responsibility and bounden duty to maintain the best quality and standards. In the present socio-political scenario we work against all odds and sometimes we are compelled to compromise our technical principles, thus it is our accountability as professionals to stand together to resist what is not right and educate the people and make them realize that what we are doing is for their welfare and benefit”.
To the gathering, he informed that over the years, the Association has undertaken and resolved a number of initiatives, some of which are shifting of a Circle Office from Kohima to Dimapur, creation of divisions in the newly created districts of Peren, Longleng and Kiphire and setting up of Rural Divisions under Kohima and Dimapur districts, in addition to the existing Divisions which have been renamed as Urban Divisions. However, he said that the Association is facing a number of issues pending to be resolved especially on the matter of creation of post (s) and subsequent expansion of the department for better efficiency and smooth functioning at various levels. To this, the association has issued a representation before the Government for further creation of the following post(s) for consideration: Deputy C.E (SE rank)-1, SE Tuensang circle-1, EE-2, SDO-6.
In addition to APHEN demands, Er.Y.Tep reminded the members that “we have the responsibility towards the development of the state pertaining to providing water supply and sanitization to the citizens both under Rural and Urban sector. It is our common goal to ensure completion of major schemes such as: Augmentation of water supply to state capital, providing water supply to 24 villages under Chiephobozou RC Block, providing water supply to Peren District headquarters, Directorate office complex at New Secretariat, Kohima”.
With such targets to be achieved, the APHEN president said, “I believe if we come together and share field experiences and technical expertise, we can count on the encouragement, guidance and support of the new hierarchy in place at the ministerial level ably assisted by a seasoned bureaucrat and a dynamic Chief Engineer in delivering the goods to the people of our state”.
The chief guest for the event was R.Binchilo Thong, IAS APC & Principal Secretary, PHED, I & FC Government of Nagaland. Er. I Moa Longchar, general secretary APHEN chaired the inaugural session, while exhortation was given by Er. Kevisekho Kruse, Chief Engineer, PHED Nagaland and vote of thanks by Er. Repang Longkumer, Advisory Board member, APHEN. The inaugural session was later followed by working session.
