DIMAPUR, MAY 29 (MExN): President of the Border Peace Coordination Committee (Assam-Nagaland), B.P. Bora and Vice President Imsu Jamir in a joint press release has appealed to the people of Assam and Nagaland, Non-Governmental Organisations and the governments of both the States to concentrate on “the logistic ways and means towards ascertaining peace and coordinated living of Assamese and Nagas as it had existed since time immemorial.”
“Swaying from the issue of settlement of boundary of the States, which is pending with the Supreme Court, BPCC (A-N) appeal both sides to concentrate on peace and development of the bordering areas for National Interest”, stated the press note while pointing out that since its inception in 2005, BPCC (A-N) had been observing that some NGOs of Assam,“resort to measures like road blockade etc to press fulfillment of demands which leads to suffering of innocent people of both sides.”
The press note recalled that in a recent incident on the border, All Assam Tea Tribes’ Students Association imposed road blockade which ultimately led the Legislator of Mariani LAC “in to awkward position following which Government of Nagaland had to seal all kinds of transaction either ways”.
The BPCC (A-N) stated that it cannot rule out such a decision of Nagaland Government but appealed that the matter be taken up with the Government of Assam for an amicable settlement.
“The NGOs like North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) may ensure the Government of Assam that such road blockade programs etc will not be repeated in future by any NGOs but settle through required negotiations etc in pressing fulfillment of demand/s of people of both the States for their peace and coordinated living in times to come”, the joint press note stated.
