April 30 assault amicably settled

Perpetrators render unconditional public apology

DIMAPUR, MAY 20 (MExN): The issue arising out of the April 30 incident at Chumukedima town wherein an Executive member of the Dimapur Ao Youth Organization (ALTD) was assaulted has been amicably settled consequent upon an unconditional public apology rendered by the perpetrators of the crime. This was informed in a press note issued by the President K. Longri Imchen and Assistant General Secretary Meyatuba of the ALTD.

A copy of the public apology signed in the presence of five witnesses by Rudolhoukho-u @ Akono s/o Neikezo Chalie-u of Ward No 3, Chumukedima town and Pelie Lhoukepelie s/o Lt Vichanyu of Chumukedima village was also made available to the local media.

The duo admitted that on April 30, 2013, they had committed a “serious crime against one of the executive members of the ALTD by assaulting him physically and threatened his life at gun point even after making him disclose his tribal identity, which further hurt the sentiments of the Ao people in general”.

Tendering unconditional public apology for the crimes they had committed against the member of the ALTD in particular and Ao tribe in general, the duo also undertook a statement that they shall be “held responsible if the life of the victim in question or any of the members of Ao community are harmed in connection to this case in future”.

“We undertake this statement to the nest of our knowledge and in sound mind in the presence of our community leaders, relatives and the Dimapur Ao Youth Organization on this day of 20th May, 2013”, stated the public apology.

On the amicable settlement of the issue, the ALTD has expressed profound gratitude to the Diphupar Police Force under the “competent leadership of the officer-in-charge for its active and persistent effort which has largely contributed towards the early settlement of the issue”.

The ALTD also acknowledged and appreciated all the individuals and groups who had raised the “voice of conscience against such inhuman action” through various platforms. “The support given by our people has provided the strength and sustained this effort to find justice and healing to the hurt caused by the incident”, stated the press note.

The ALTD stated that that it stood for “mutual respect, progress and prosperity among the various communities of Nagaland” and that as a mass based organization, it will continue to “guard the society against any aberration of such ideals”.
