AR apprehends alleged cadre of NSCN (R)

Kohima, August 13 (MExN): In an operation on the night of August 12 in Yongchik village of Changlang District (Arunachal Pradesh), the Assam Rifles’ Changlang Battalion apprehended an allegedly senior cadre of NSCN (Reformation) along with an accomplice. This was stated in a press release from Press Information Bureau (Defence) of the Government of India.  

In the press release, one Col. Konwer, PRO (Defence) informed that “Bokam Wangrey, Self Styled Sergeant Major, Rajapio South Changlang of NSCN (R) was apprehended along with an OGW Raju Kumar Choudhury based on specific intelligence about presence of one cadre trying to terrorize and attempting extortion at Yongchik village.” According to the release, the Assam Rifle battalion launched an operation and apprehended the “Self Styled Sergeant Major” with, allegedly, an AK-47 assault rifle, ammunition, contraband, multiple SIM cards and other incriminating evidence.  

“With this arrest, the security forces have so far apprehended two senior cadres of the outfit in the past two weeks which will result in a major leadership upheaval in the outfit and could severely dent the extortion nexus,” stated the press release.  

Further, it noted that the security forces “have been carrying out aggressive operations in South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area. This operation has tightened the noose around the group and has brought relief to the local population.”
