DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 17 (MExN): Personnel of the 3 Assam Rifles apprehended 7 NSCN (K) cadres, who the AR stated were involved in an “extortion racket” being run in Kohima.
A press note from the PRO, IGAR North informed that the apprehended individuals belong to the military and civil wing NSCN (K). They were captured in operations carried out in Kohima district on September 15 and 16.
The PRO informed that troops of the 3 Assam Rifles on September 15 along with police representatives apprehended three individuals “who were threatening the local populace, vendors and making unjust demands of extortion.” The apprehended individuals were found in possession of One 7.56mm Pistol, One pt 22 Pistol along with eleven live rounds, Challan Slips and Marijuana (50 gms approx). The three were identified as Sergeant Hoshito Ayemi, L Majingmong Thiipori (Civil Wing) and LinpingthuPachuri (Civil Wing). The apprehended persons along with the recovered items were handed over to OC, South Police Station, Kohima, the PRO informed.
In another operation on September 16, troops of the 3 Assam Rifles along with police representatives apprehended four cadres from a vehicle at the High School Junction area in Kohima. The four were identified as Finance Secretary, Ato Rengma, Adeo Kiewhuo, Neiktoula Kenguruse and Thejavinuo Theja. The PRO informed that the AR recovered six extortion challans from the apprehended persons. They along with the recovered items were handed over to OC North Police Station Kohima, the PRO added.
