AR celebrates 178th year

Assam Rifles personnel pay homage to the “Martyrs” of AR on its 178th Raising Day celebrated at Laitkor, Shillong on March 24.

Dimapur, March 24 (MExN): The Assam Rifles celebrated its 178th Raising Day today at its Headquarters Director General AR, Laitkor, Shillong. The ceremony started by paying homage to the “Martyrs” of the Assam Rifles. A press note received here says.  “During the past 178 years, the Force has rendered yeomen service through gallant acts, unflinching commitment and sacrifices. The Valiant Saga of the Assam Rifles is seamlessly intertwined with the history and development of the North Eastern Region,” it says.

The AR began with only 750 combatants in 1835, but today it has 46 battalions and is the oldest paramilitary force in India.
