The Assam Rifles carried out programmes across the State on the occasion of International Workers Day.

DIMAPUR, MAY 2 (MExN): The Assam Rifles conducted several programmes across the State of Nagaland to celebrate International Workers Day on May 1.
The Kiphire Battalion of Assam Rifles celebrated the dat at ¬¬Kiphire, Mimi, Longmatre and Pungro villages.
A felicitation programme was conducted to honour the services of the labour community in which essential rations were provided to the workers. A lunch was also organised at Pungro town. A total of 133 laboures attended the event in four villages.
Meanwhile, the Chieswema Battalion of the Assam Rifles celebrated the day at Chieswema, Tseminyu, Jessami and Cheiphebozu villages of Kohima and Phek districts. Rations were provided to the workers.
The Phek Battalion of Assam Rifles reached out to labourers by distributing basic COVID sanitary items at Phek, Ziphu, Meluri, Avangkhu, New Thewati and Akhen.
As a part of this, masks, sanitizers, multivitamins and essential rations were distributed to the locals. “These people are doing yoeman service in difficult terrain during unprecedented times of the COVID pandemic to make ends meet,” a press release from the AR stated. A total of 169 villagers got benefitted from the event.
Further, the Jalukie Battalion of Assam Rifles conducted a wellness and Covid awareness campaign on the occasion in Peren town.
The labourers were provided with hand sanitizers, masks and sweets. They were told about the risks of the new COVID strains and precautionary measures to be taken. A total of 47 labourers, who are involved in various road construction sites, were benefitted.
Meanwhile, the Medziphema Battalion felicitated labourers at Nihokhu, Kukidolong Ghaspani and Zubza villages of Dimapur and Kohima districts.
COVID-19 protocols were deliberated upon which was followed by refreshments with the workers. Med kits like masks and sanitizers were also distributed to the workers.
